NEW NASSAU COUNTY LIMO BUS & FHV DRIVER INFO

Nassau County TLC * March 25, 2009

MINEOLA, NY -- As of May 15th 2009, the Nassau County Taxi and Limousine Commission (NCTLC) will commence enforcement against bus plated vehicles for-hire vehicle (FHVs) just as we do with all other for-hire vehicles.

The local Nassau County Ordinance 113 of 2005, to "operate" is defined as picking up or dropping off passengers in Nassau. In the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law §498, for-hire point to point operation is prohibited without having the vehicle registered with the NCTLC.

As a courtesy, the NCTLC is willing to recognize the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) authority and inspection as an In-County FHV license, meaning the owner / base may register the vehicle with the NCTLC for the In-County fee of $5.00 per vehicle and will receive a NCTLC diamond registration sticker which allows for point to point operation in Nassau. However, all FHV drivers must have either a NCTLC FHV driver license or a NYCTLC FHV driver license in addition to their Commercial Driver License (CDL) from the NYSDMV. If you had a urine test within July, 2008 - May, 2009 we will waive the urine exam up to May 1st, 2009 for the FHV driver license.

As per the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law §498, section I, all pre-arranged interjurisdictional FHV trips must have in the vehicle at the time of car stop, a trip sheet / passenger log meaning a computer read only screen and/or manifest / log sheet that must be filled out prior to the trip and surrendered to a police officer or any member or agent of a TLC.

The NCTLC is part of the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs, which gives us broader authority to protect the riding public and Nassau County residents; as such we will consider a violation to be either a deceptive trade practice or an unconscionable trade practice.

All drivers in our view and in the view of associations and coalitions believe all drivers with a fully vetted background check is smarter for your business as well as a matter of public safety and homeland security safety.
